Tree Juglans regia [Persian Walnut] Juglans regia is a large, rounded, spreading tree that produces the walnuts frequently seen in stores. It may take up to 20 years for this tree to become mature enough to produce a decent-sized crop of nuts. Long tap root makes transplanting difficult.
Shrub Prunus tomentosa [Nanking Cherry] Among earliest of Prunus to flower. Subject to the troubles of other cherries (fireblight, etc.), but less so than some. Leaf spot in wet seasons. Often short-lived.
Tree Tilia tomentosa [Silver Linden] Very adaptable, even alkaline soil, but it doesn't tolerate much air pollution. More heat and drought tolerant than other lindens. Japanese beetles are attracted to the foliage. Attractive light-gray, smooth bark approaches beech like in appearance.
Tree Tilia tomentosa ‘Sterling’ [Sterling Linden] Tilia tomentosa 'Sterling' shows some resistance to Japanese beetle.
