It is fast growing and requires maintainance to keep its vase shape, but works well as a street tree. It has showy emerging leaves and a brilliant yellow fall color.

Its dark green leaves in summer mature into a strong red red-orange fall color. It also has large exfoliating gray bark revealing tan underneath.

It has green leaves that have a glossy texture and turn yellow in the fall. It is used many times as a street tree due to its fast-growing nature and its road salt tolerance.

An excellent shade tree, probably one of the best substitutes for Ulmus americana in form and gracefulness, but slightly smaller.
