Discovered in 1930 growing wild in North Carolina
 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves alternate, simple, 4-7.5" long and wide, star-shaped (5-7 rounded lobes), and finely serrate. Ovate buds (0.25-0.5" long) are reddish green-brown. Stems are rounded to somewhat angled, often developing corky wings. Sap has gum-like consistency.

Additional Information

'Rotundiloba' has distinctly rounded leaf lobes and is fruitless. This cultivar is also narrower than the species and has variable yellow to burgundy fall color. It is difficult to establish good branching and canopy on young 'Rotundiloba' trees. Widely adapted to soils and climates. Rather difficult to transplant in large sizes. Select northern stock for use in North.
