Annulus

Any ring-shaped structure. In mushrooms, a ring of tissue on the stipe (stem) formed by the rupture of a membrane (the partial veil) connecting the (pileus) cap and stipe of the developing mushroom. In ferns, a row of specialized, thick-walled cells along one side of the spore-bearing case that aids in the dispersal of spores.
