This evergreen normally forms a vase-shaped clump that is non-spreading. Dryopteris marginalis is a woodland fern that is most often in shady crevices of rocky ledges and bluffs. The foliage is green with grayish tint with deeply cut leathery fronds which are anywhere between 15 and 20 inches long.

Additional Information

This fern is easily grown in average, well drained soils in partial to full shade. It prefers moist, rich, acidic soils with protection from the wind.
