Purdue’s Jules Janick Horticulture Garden is located on the south and east side of the Horticulture Building at 625 Agriculture Mall Drive. The garden is named after Jules Janick, Purdue professor emeritus of breeding research in horticulture. Dr. Janick contributed the lead gift for the new garden. His generosity provided a garden that Jules described as “a living jewel” for the campus community.
A wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and bulbs grow throughout the half-acre of the teaching garden. One of the garden’s main features is a 70-year-old American beech tree, that spreads its broad canopy to create a space for shade-loving perennials and groundcovers. Other distinct areas of the garden include a rock garden, prairie garden, and a spring ephemeral garden. This broad range of garden types provides inspiration and ideas for visitors. Gardeners can explore various techniques and planting ideas used here to implement in their own gardens.
The Jules Janick Horticulture Garden is open to the public year-round.
