Pyracantha coccinea 'Lalandei'

A favorite for espalier training, because of the adaptable branching habit, showy fruits, and vigourous growth. Adapted to a variety of soils and environments but is susceptible to scab. 'Lalandei' is the most popular Scarlet Firethorn cultivar in northern areas, although it may winter burn.

'Gnozam' is a dense, compact shrub that bears numerous attractive orange berries in the fall and through the winter, but is severely susceptible to scab. Firethorns are a favorite for espalier training, because of the adaptable branching habit and showy fruits. Tends to be semi-evergreen in cooler climates and evergreen in warmer climates. Adapted to a variety of soils and environments. Fireblight can be serious. Other problems are scab and leaf and twig blight.

'Hancock' is a low-growing, wide spreading dwarf cultivar of the Chenault Coralberry that is useful as a groundcover and for erosion control. Transplants well. 'Hancock' appears to have less of a problem with this than the species type, though.

Taxus cuspidata 'Capitata'

'Capitata' is a very functional and durable pyramidal yew. Can get up to 40-50' tall, but can be pruned to maintain a smaller size. Dioecious. Tolerates shade and heavy pruning. Bark peels on older specimens. All parts of Taxus, except the fleshy, red aril are poisonous. Can be significantly damaged by deer.
