 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Long-pointed scales on leading shoots, more blunt scales on lateral shoots, with leaves being opposite in 4 rows. White waxy leaf markings (like butterfly wings) are often visible beneath, on the dull green side of the branchlets (sometimes not clear). Branches horizontal or drooping, but turning upward at the end, especially the lower branches.

Additional Information

Green Giant Arborvitae is one of the best plants for screening when grown in wet, but not in saturated soils. The straight species was an important timber tree in the western US. Subject to several pests (especially bagworms), all of which usually can be controlled with timely spraying.
