Additional Information
The Hawthorn genus, Crataegus, is in the Rose Family, Rosaceae, and is a large genus comprised of about 200 species of generally deciduous and thorny trees and shrubs. Native to North America, Europe, and Asia, plants from this genus can be found growing wild in many parts of the world. Hawthorns are generally grown for their ornamental pink to white flowers and generally red fruits, which are useful for attracting wildlife. As overall quite tough plants, most Crataegus are adapted to many different environments and growing conditions, including harsh urban environments. Unfortunately, many Hawthorns can be affected by fireblight.
