 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves are alternate, simple, ovate to elliptic, entire edging, and purple in color at 2 to 4" in length and 1 1/2 to 2 1/2" in width. Young bark is smooth and mature bark more textured. Fruits are triangular nuts maturing in late summer.

Additional Information

One of the more beautiful purple leaf trees, the Purple-Leaf European Beech, have deep purple almost black leaves as they emerge, maturing over time to a lighter purple-green coloration. For a specimen or shade tree for the landscape, this is a great choice.
