Flower Notes:
Multi-Colored (Large white to pink to purple flowers (5-10" dia.) in early May; outside of the roughly 9 tepals flush pinkish-purple while the inside is whitish)
Foliage Notes:
Green (Summer); Bronze (Rarely has the attractive yellow-brown fall color)
Fruit Notes:
Red (Cucumber-like pods with usually only a few attractive red seeds in 4" pods in fall)
Soil Notes:
Moist, peaty, acidic soil
Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves alternate, simple, 3-6" long, half as wide, obovate to broad-oblong, apex narrow and abruptly short-pointed, dark green above and pubescent below. Flower buds are large (0.5-0.75" long) and silky. Stems are fragrant.
