 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Alternate leaves (3-6" long) are 5-7 lobed. U-shaped leaf sinuses (Quercus coccinea has C-shaped sinuses). Blade is somewhat "V"-shaped at attachment with petiole. Small acorn (1/2" long) with nut enclosed only at base by a thin, saucer-like cup. The branches of 'Crownright' come out of the trunk at 30-60 degree angles.

Additional Information

Handsome tree with a more upright habit that lacks the pendulous character of the lower branches seen in the species type. Requires an acidic soil and is subject to severe iron chlorosis on calcareous soils. This can be corrected but it means additional maintenance.
