 Diagnostic Characteristics:
The lustrous leaves (1-3 long by 0.5-1.5" wide) are alternate, simple, obovate, and entire with 8-9 distinctly impressed veins. The pubescent terminal buds are significantly larger than the lateral buds. Stems have prominent vertical lenticels.

Additional Information

Rhamnus frangula is very weedy (invasive in some areas) and adaptable, and generally has an unattractive, leggy habit. Birds love the fruits and spread the seeds. This species is not recommended for use in the landscape.
