Diagnostic Characteristics:

Abruptly-pointed leaves are darker green above and a lighter dull green below. Leaves on main branches have a small yellowish gland on abaxial surface. Scales of cones overlap (Chamaecyparis cone scales open up). No hooks on cone scales as in Platycladus.

Additional Information

'Wintergreen' has a narrow pyramidal habit and maintains excellent color all year round. Slightly faster growing and more shade tolerant than other variants of T. occidentalis. One of the best plants for screening in moist, well-aerated soils. Bagworms can be a problem. Subject to several other insect pests, all of which usually can be controlled with timely spraying. Deer may feed on foliage.
