Brown (0.3 wide, 5-lobed (star-shaped), dehiscent capsule that emerges green and ripens to deep brown; interesting, but not overly ornamental; fall)
Soil Notes:
Prefers well-drained, acidic soils with high organic matter, but is adaptable
Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves (1-3" long by 0.5-1.5" wide) are alternate, simple, elliptic to oblong, finely pointed at the apex (mucronate), and entire or with serrations on the top half. Stems heavily lenticelled and fissured.
