Overlapping, curved, awl-shaped leaves (1/8-1/6" long) in whorls of 3 and with 2 gray to white bands. Ellipsoidal cone (0.25-0.3" long) contains a single ridged seed.

Additional Information

Juniperus squamata is a shrub species that can be quite variable in size and form. This plant gained its common name from the single seed borne by each cone. Widely adapted to soils and climates. Does well in alkaline soils, but not wet soils. Susceptible to bagworms.
