Leaves are opposite, simple, 2-5" in length and width and 3 or possibly 5 lobed. Petioles are 2-4" in length. Dark green during summer months gives way to brilliant red during fall months. Young bark is smooth and gray which gives way to rough to scaly bark.

'Autumn Spire' has a broad columnar form and brilliant red fall coloration. This cultivar only produces male flowers, so it is fruitless.
