 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Needles keeled below (abaxial) and are on long shoots up to 1.25" long. Needles grow on short spurs (30-40 per spur) and are 0.25-1.5" long. Stems are furrowed, without pubescence. Cones 1-1.5" long by 0.75-1" wide.

Additional Information

A deciduous conifer. Needs sun and good soil moisture. Does poorly on dry or chalky soil. Tolerates wet soil. A few insect pests can be problems, most notably, the larch case-bearer.
