Leaves are opposite, palmately compound, and dark green with a coarse texture. The 5 leaflets have a very short or nonexistent petiolule. Leaflets are 3-6" in length. Flower panicles are longer than the species type (6 to 10" in length) and have a deeper red color.

Additional Information

Has decent tolerance to drought and urban environments. Buds are not as sticky as its parent plant, Aesculus hippocastanum. Flower panicles are larger than both parent species with a rich red coloration, making it a popular tree choice in England.
