Leaves (2-3" long, 0.75-1.5" wide) are elliptic enequally serrate, rugose, dark green and pubescent above, densely villous beneath. Stems also densely villous (long, soft, unmatted hairs).

    Among earliest of Prunus to flower. Subject to the troubles of other cherries (fireblight, etc.), but less so than some. Leaf spot in wet seasons. Often short-lived.
