 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves are alternate, simple, ovate or obovate (0.75-2.5" long and 0.3-1.3" wide), unequally rounded at base (but not so oblique as in other elms), serrated, and pubescent underneath when young. Highly mottled bark.

Additional Information

Stunning, multi-colored, mottled, and exfoliating bark. Grows well under city conditions. Good resistance against Dutch elm disease, elm leaf beetle, and Japanese beetle. Slightly weak wooded, sometimes damaged by ice storms.
