Foliage Notes:
Green (Evergreen, needle-like leaves in fascicles of two are up to 1" long, stiffly spreading but crowded on stem)
Soil Notes:
Widely adapted to soils, but prefers a deep, moist loam; tolerant of calcarous soils
Diagnostic Characteristics:
Two up to 1" needles per fascicle with persistent 0.5" basal sheath. Bumpy protuberances where leaves abscise on stem. Multi-stemmed upright branching and needle habit.
