Diagnostic Characteristics:

The needles of 'Gentsch White' are silver and white at branch tips, deep green in the center of the plant. Regularly 2-ranked needles (0.25-0.6" long) with 2 whitish bands beneath. A few needles flip over on top down length of the stem. Cones are 0.5-1" long.

'Gentsch White' is a dwarf cultivar with white and silver-tipped branches. Foliage browns in dry soil, drying wind, and winter sun in very exposed sites. Does not tolerate long periods of drought. Can be scorched by full sun and temperatures above 95 degrees F. Many minor pest problems, with wooly aldelgids being especially serious in the Northeast US.
