Diagnostic Characteristics:
Needles are crowned, overlapping, awl-shaped, 1/4 to 5/8" long and 1/16" in width, glaucous, blue-green, tapering to a fine point, grooved above with one band stomata, and convex below. Fruits are cones, dioecious, globe-like, flat at the base, 1/3 to 1/2" in diameter, 3 seeds inside, 3-angled, ovate, acuminate, dark blue, bloomy at maturity, and appearing silvery.
