Tiny, whitish flowers borne in open, airy panicles appear in late spring to early summer
Silvery, gray-edged leaves with purple veins (in cool weather). Rounded, lobed leaves form a basal mound which may spread up to 16” wide. Leaves turn orange in fall.
Slender, wiry stems rise well above the foliage mound, typically up to 24-28” tall.
A dry capsule that matures by late summer splits open to thousands of tiny, dark brown to black seeds.

Best grown in organically rich, humusy, medium moisture, well-drained soils.
Native to the West, particularly in the Rocky Mountains, with a few species extending into northern Mexico.
