 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Elliptical leaves are glabrous above, lighter and pubescent below (especially on veins). Leaf size is variable, generally 1-2" long and 0.3-1" wide. Young stems are pale green and pubescent, whereas older stems are gray.

Additional Information

Performs well as an informal hedge, but perhaps too coarse to be a good formal clipped hedge. Extremely tolerant of different soils and climates. Can be coppiced to rejuvenate. Can be invasive by seed.
