Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves are alternate and simple, ovate, serrated, 3/4-2" long by 3/8-3/4" wide, and with 11 to 16 vein pairs and pubescent petioles. Trunk has irregular fluting when compared to the typical rounded trunk found in Ulmus parvifolia.
