 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Needles in fascicles of two, 3-4" long, not dense, slightly twisted, and with persistent sheaths. Sheaths bear 1 or 2 slender threads. Cones are 2" long and persist 2 to 3 years. Buds are 0.5" long, reddish-brown and resinous. Branches are usually crooked and leaning.

Additional Information

This species is outstanding for its landscape interest, making a uniquely picturesque specimen. 'Umbraculifera' is an interesting dwarf cultivar, with a spreading, umbrella-like head and can be grown as a shrub or small tree. The flaky, orange-red bark of this plant is quite attractive.
