Flower panicles are showy, and are quite long and will turn from white to beige. Seed plumes will stay attached into the winter months adding texture to the winter landscape. Occasional problems with rust in hot and humid climates. Insects that may cause problems are Japanese beetles, thrips, and spider mites.
Switch Grass is native to Missouri prairies. Has a vertical shape and remains stiff throughout the growing season. Will tolerate occasional flooding. It is rhizomatous. 'Cloud Nine' is recorded as the tallest cultivar.
