Bright yellow leaves are awl-like (0.08-0.13" long) produced on 2-ranked branchlets in a drooping, thread-like arrangement. Needles softer than junipers. Small, yellowish-brown, pea-like cones (0.25" dia.) with 6-8 scales, and shrunken center. Bark peels off in thin strips.

An attention-grabbing plant, Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Golden Mop' is a compact, dwarf cultivar of the Sawara Falsecypress. It has bright yellow, drooping, thread-like foliage that retains its color well throughout the year. For best color, place is full sun. A slow grower, this plant can reach up to 5' tall and wide at maturity, but it can take over a decade to reach that point. 'Golden Mop' can grow in average soils, as long as they are well-drained. Provide shelter from the wind.
