 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Thickish, semi-evergreen leaves (2-3" long) are opposite and elliptic to more rounded with crenate-serrate margins. Stems are slender green and rounded, turning straw brown in second or third year. Small imbricate buds are greenish often tinged in red in winter. Fruit capsule is pink, aril is orange-red.
 Special Characteristics:

Additional Information

Foliage fully evergreen in the South, but persists for only about half the winter in the North. Although not as serious as in other species of Euonymus, scale insects can be a problem. May be killed to ground in severe winters, but grows back rapidly.
