Diagnostic Characteristics:
The awl-shaped leaves are 0.4" long and appressed. The fruit is a short-stalked and rounded cone, resinous when young, 0.5-1.25" in diam. The furrowed, light brown bark of Taxodium distichum var. imbricarium separates it from the reddish-brown fibrously peeling bark of Taxodium distichum. The branches of T. distichum var. imbricarium are also held more erect than the horizontal branches (also ascending at the end) of T. distichum.
