Diagnostic Characteristics:

Leaves are awl-like (0.08-0.13" long) and dark green on top, with whitish lines beneath, produced on drooping, thread-like, 2-ranked branchlets. Needles softer than junipers. Small, yellowish-brown, pea-like cones (0.25" dia.) with 6-8 scales, and shrunken center. Reddish-brown bark peels off in thin strips.

The Threadleaf Sawara Falsecypress has very fine-textured, drooping foliage and branches. While this slow-growing plant may eventually reach 15' tall, it will likely take well over 15 years to reach that point. 'Filifera' can grow in average soils, as long as they are well-drained. Provide shelter from the wind.
