Flower Notes:
White (3-4.5" wide, flat-topped cymes in spring)
Foliage Notes:
Green (Leaves emerge greenish-yellow in the spring, darkening to a glossy, deep green); Red-Violet (Fall color can be a nice reddish-purple, but is very inconsistent)
Stem Notes:
Brown (slightly pubescent to essentially glabrous)
Fruit Notes:
Blue (0.5" long blue-black drupes appearing in fall; edible and can be eaten fresh)

Average, well-drained soils
Diagnostic Characteristics:
The glossy leaves (2-4" long) are opposite, simple, ovate, and finely toothed with an abrupt point. The petiole is winged. Vegetative buds are long (up to 1") and slender, and the flower buds tend to be a little longer and are wide at the base.
