Leaves (7-9" long) alternate, odd-pinnate (9-13 leaflets). Flowers are drooping axillary racemes. All but new growth is densely hispid (stiff hairs), more strongly paired thorns at nodes. Hispid pod (2-2.5" long). Twigs have raised lenticels.

Additional Information

Can fix nitrogen. Especially well adapted to poor, dry, alkaline soils. Though native, can be invasive on sandy soils. Frequent pruning may be needed.
