Flower Notes:
Cream (Creamy white malodorous flowers in May in 3-4" dia. flat-topped cymes)
Foliage Notes:
Green (Lustrous, leathery dark green summer foliage; semi-evergreen foliage holds into November)
Fruit Notes:
Red;black (Bright red berries change to black ; appear in late August to September)
Soil Notes:
Widely adapted to soils, as are many viburnums
Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves are opposite, simple, rugose, leathery, dark green (but less so than in Viburnum rhytidophyllum), 4-8" long by 2-2.5" wide (wider than V. rhytidophyllum). Long, naked vegetative buds. Flower buds are held tightly and resemble cauliflower (V. rhytidophyllum flower buds are much looser). Flower cluster (3-4" dia.) is smaller than that of V. rhytidophyllum (4-8" dia.).
