Leaves (2-4" long by 1-2.5" wide) are alternate, simple, narrow-elliptic to obovate, and irregularly toothed with an acuminate apex and pubescence underneath. Thorns are present on stems, but not in the density of many other hawthorn species, such as C. crusgalli, one of its parents.

Additional Information

The Lavalle Hawthorn is a small, rounded tree that resulted from a cross of Crataegus mexicana and C. crusgalli. Quite resistant to rust and less thorny than its Cockspur Hawthorn parent.
