Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves (1-3.5" long by 0.3-1.25" wide) are opposite, simple, ovate to ellipitical to obovate, and glabrous with acuminate apex and finely serrated margins. Fruits are 0.5-0.75" wide, 4-lobed, pink to red capsules that split to reveal seeds encased in bright orange arils.
