Flower Notes:
Yellow (Pale yellow flowers on pendulous corymbs before leaves in spring have subtle beauty)
Foliage Notes:
Green (Green foliage in summer); Multi-Colored (Excellent yellow to orange or scarlet foliage)

Brown (Samaras are somewhat horseshoe-shaped)

Prefers, well-drained, moderately moist, fertile soil; does poorly in compacted soils

Eastern United States and adjacent Canada
Diagnostic Characteristics:
Leaves opposite, simple, 3-5 lobed, 3-6" long and across. Leaf tips rounded, not pointed as in Acer platanoides. Terminal buds are gray-brown, not green as in Acer platanoides. Smallish paired samaras are somewhat horseshoe-shaped. Large branches often have blackish coloration on upper surfaces.
